About My Garden

magnolia1

Originaly from the Pacific Northwest, I settled in New England in 2006, with my fiancé, and a couple four-legged kids.  We bought our home in Northern Vermont in the spring of 2007.

The landscape surrounding our new home was an empty canvas, just begging for a gardener and a good shovel.  I was limited only by my imagination, and, oh yes, that thing called a budget.  This has been both exciting and challenging.  I have always had a love of nature, plants, and gardens.   You could say it is an obsession.  However, the thought of creating a landscape felt a bit overwhelming.  As I began to consider what plants I would like to include in my garden, I soon discovered a love for color, texture, and form.  Creating a garden felt more like artistry than anything else.

In the spring of 2008, I began the garden in front of the house as well as a small vegetable garden on the south side.  There is a slope in front which began as a lawn.  We soon discovered that it was too steep to mow safely, and began removing the lawn on that slope.  I fantasized about the possibilities of what I could plant in place of the grass.  While gardening on a slope poses challenges, I felt that the addition of a retaining wall seemed ordinary, and reshaping the slope would alter the character of the site.  I decided that I would begin filling it with some dwarf conifers, a variety of grasses, and of course some perennials and bulbs.  This will be my project for the spring of 2009.

My goal is a design which is interesting, inviting, and pleasing to all of the senses.  This will take time, thought, and practice.  I created this blog as a gardening journal.  A place to share my experiences, thoughts, ideas,  inspirations, and photographs.

When I discovered the world of garden blogging, I was delighted to find that there are many, many gardeners who are eager to share their own experiences, questions and wisdom through their blogs.  I hope you enjoy following my own personal gardening adventure.  Now, pull on those gardening shoes and take a walk with me through my gardens…
