Recently, Blake and I have been making some trips to Burlington to visit the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts. We have seen some great shows, including Momix, which is a company of dancer-illusionists known internationally for presenting work of exceptional inventiveness and physical beauty. For 25 years, MOMIX has been celebrated for its ability to conjure up a world of surrealistic images using props, light, shadow, humor and the human body. http://www.mosespendleton.com/ This was an awesome show, and unbelievably creative. We both really enjoyed it, and I would highly recommend it!
We also saw Richard Thompson, who was named one of the top 20 guitarists of all time, by Rolling Stone magazine. Mr. Thompson was asked by Playboy magazine to name the top 10 songs of the millenium for an upcoming article. After he had compiled his list, the magazine never published the article. But, he decided he would make a tour of it. This was a really fun show – and it was interesting to hear some music which dated as far back as 1068.
Finally, last night we got to see the show Chicago, which was amazing. Although this was the first time I had seen the show live, I decided I could probably see it countless times and never grow tired of it. The singing and dancing was incredible! We both really enjoyed it. We talked a bit about how we should maybe take advantage of the fact that we live fairly close to NYC, and take in a broadway production or two. It would make for a really fun trip…
I am so excited!! I have wanted to see Cirque du Soleil for quite some time… and the opportunity has finally arrived. Blake noticed that Cirque will be visiting Montreal next weekend, and asked if I would be interested. INTERESTED?? Uh, I’ll go pack my bags right now. He discovered there were still some seats left, and we decided to sit one level up from the ground, hoping that it would provide the best viewing opportunities. The show we are going to is called “Saltimbanco.” Saltimbanco is an old italian word for street artist. Saltimbanco is a Cirque du Soleil signature show inspired by the urban fabric of the metropolis and its colorful inhabitants. Decidedly baroque in its visual vocabulary, the show’s eclectic cast of characters draws spectators into a fanciful, dreamlike world,
an imaginary city where diversity is a cause for hope. www.cirquedusoleil.com This is one of Cirque’s longest running shows, and should be a wonderful treat. On another happy note, I received 100% on my math presentation, and an “A” in the course. I received 100% on my seven page research paper for Psychologoy, and an “A” in the course. The reason I am sharing this, is for a couple different reasons. I have never in my life received an A in math. And, I was very excited about the grade on my research paper, because I haven’t written a paper in a very long time. I was a little stressed about it. So, it’s just very rewarding to see that all of my hard work paid off. : )
My wonderful fiance has reserved us a seat for the broadway musical “Chicago”!! I am pretty excited about it, since I have really wanted to see it in person after watching the movie. The show is not until February, but it is only in town for one day, so I feel pretty lucky about having tickets. It’s always great having something special to look forward to.
I just started fall semester at school, and it looks as though this semester will be much better than the last. Summer semester was not exactly a good experience, but something positive did come from it. It provided the proof I needed that I can do this, and do it well, without having to get completely stressed out over it. This semester I am taking Intro to Psychology and Mathematical Concepts. My last math class, thank goodness! This math class is already going much better than the last, thanks to an instructor that actually cares whether or not we get it, and stops to explain if we don’t. Plus, she doesn’t make us feel like a complete idiot when we’re stuck. (Luxuries I didn’t have over the summer.) I hired a private tutor over the summer, and when I told my professor this he responded with “well, if that’s what you need to motivate you to study…” It had nothing to do with motivation… it was about the fact that you can’t explain any of this in terms that the majority of the class can understand!!
Blake started a new job at the end of August… a position with a company called NRG. Their focus is wind power, and they really seem to value and appreciate their employees. He is really enjoying it and happy that he has found a position that provides opportunity and growth, with a company that is doing something meaningful.
I recently went to visit my family. It was really great seeing everyone. Blake wasn’t able to come with me, due to the fact that he started his new job the week I was there. I stayed with my mom, which was great because I really wanted to spend some time hanging out with her. We celebrated my dad’s 84th birthday while I was there, and I got to see my great-neice. I will post some pictures soon!
I hope everyone is doing well. I hope to post some pictures of our transition into fall, here in the northeast. Love to you!!
